25th April – Despite the rain, the group took part in a greenwood working day in a wonderful outdoor setting, called Spring Wood. Thankfully Peter Wood, who delivered the session, has set up sheltered areas to allow activities to take place even if the weather is against you. The students had a go on the pole lathe’s making spinning tops, as well as using willow to make various animals. All of this using hand tools and no power. It was a great introduction to traditional rural crafts. The hot drinks by the fire managed to keep everyone’s morale up during our chilly visit to Greenwood days.
