First visit to Home Farm

22nd March – Farmers David and Elizabeth spent the morning of the first day for this group on the Combine project, exploring the model farm and understanding its purpose for providing for Laxton Hall, which could be seen tucked away in the trees a short distance away from the farm. The group found out that the village of Laxton was moved from its original site as it spoilt the view for the residents of Laxton Hall, and you could just make out slight depressions in one of the fields that indicated where drains used to be. As the group walked along they also came across an ice house, which was situated half-way between the now disappeared lake and the main hall. David and Elizabeth also discussed the crops that they grow today on their farm, as well as showing the group the work they have undertaken as part of the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme. dscn0500
